Alexandra Slon
I am wounded by information, living the experience of simultaneous vision and ignorance. I am interested in the nature of contradiction in a designed reality, where flashes of insight are quickly replaced by misrecognition.
Through different ways of experiencing the world, the fact remains unchanged that something more is always happening than it seems at first glance, which gives rise to emotional and intellectual resonance.
I strive to capture a variety of concepts that transform over time, acquiring new meaning. By superimposing images on top of each other, I intertwine personal experience with the environment. I am not afraid to represent the unsightly sides of human nature, because I believe that only by admitting the ability to both nobility and baseness, one can change.
Embroidery with glass beads is an essential part of my practice. I visually emphasize the complex and fragile network of actions and consequences of choice, veiling the ugliness of horror with the aesthetics of brilliance. The translucent and reflective nature of the beads allows me, as an artist, to play with images, imbuing them with symbols and metaphors, shedding light on the ethics of forming opinions that define existence.
